Perfect stay! Beautiful beyond words, clean and Claire is a wonderful host. Responsive within minutes and very caring to anything you ask. Very child friendly.
A few things we did... read more with our young ones are the castle up the road, Kilnford shop for foodie lovers (an absolute delight) and for a deep fried Mars bars go to the Palmerston Cafe; both in Dumphries.
We got our eggs down the road from Jennifer Watt who is a very very talented sculptor. There is some incredible art at your doorstep here!!
A couple of trip tips: beautiful Coalface for a sort of art installation landscape, very soulful, and the castle ruins at Morton castle.
We did not even scratch the surface with things do locally I think. Amazing! So grateful we found this gem of a place.

This was the third time we have been here. The cottage is really clean and well cared for. The view across the valley to the hills beyond is lovely. It... read more is on a farm close to the village of Thornhill. We really liked that - the cottage itself was peaceful but the village had amenities like grocery shops, coffee shops and was a very pleasant place to walk around.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Claire's cosy cottage. It is situated in the middle of fields, cows and a pony. We loved to sit on the swing and... read more enjoy the wonderful view downhill. The peace and tranquility of this place is amazing.
The house is equipped with everything you could think of. So many bits and pieces in the kitchen - from cork screw to juice jug or various casseroles and lots of knives. Everything you need is there. Tea and biscuits just added to the lovely welcome.
We liked the two bathrooms very much. A tub for the children and a shower that even us tall people were able to stand comfortably in! A very rare find I must say :-D
Since we were travelling with two little children Claire even put up a black out blind in the childrens room and added a high chair to the breakfast room as well as a fender for the children's safety in front of the fireplace. So much appreciated all this!
The children loved to run around the garden and watch the cows that came near the fence. We quite missed them when they were moved to a different field after some days :-D
Our daughter learned to cycle on the little road in front of the house and we absolutely enjoyed many walking tours in the area - especially along the river Nith. Also we would recommend the adventure playground at Drumlanrig castle and (for the rainier days) Dalscone farm fun (indoor playground).
The internet speed was better than we'd have imagined. It used to switch on and off for a couple of days though but after Claire telephoned the operator it became more stable again.
Claire was always at hand when we needed advice and answered all our text messages very quickly. We met her a few times outside the house and had some nice chats.
The house is traditional and modern at the same time. A place that we can absolutely recommend!
